Rector and Vice-Rector elections at the UGent.
You have certainly heard that the UGent will start with the election to replace the actual Rector, Prof Dr Anne De Paepe.
The election procedure was completely modified compared to the previous editions. The UGent staff as well as the students have the opportunity to vote and the candidates need to apply in couple and gender balanced.
The first election round will take place between Wednesday April 19 and Friday April 21, 2017 The couple which will obtain a two-third majority will be elected by the as new Rector and Vice-Rector after nomination by the Board of Directors. Two binomials have introduced their application as Rector and Vice-Rector: Rik Van de Walle with Mieke Van Herreweghe, and Guido Van Huylenbroeck with Sarah De Saeger.

Obvious! Guido Van Huylenbroeck is chairman of OBSG and member of the Board of Club Van Eyck, a person on which we can always count.
Professor Guido Van Huylenbroeck is candidate Rector. Between 2008 and 2015 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Bio-Engineering and is actually Academic Director for the Internationalization of the UGent..
Professor Sarah De Saeger is candidate Vice-Rector. She is professor at the Departement of Bio-Analysis. Her field of expertise is Food Safety and Food Analysis.
Guido Van Huylenbroeck and Sarah De Saeger summarized their vision for the future of the UGent as follows: “Together we make the UGent”.
“First of all we campaign for the raising of the academic achievement among students. Energizing educational approaches are developed so that the students take initiatives and take control over their own learning process”.
“Secondly we campaign for a new managemental structure of the university, based on a participatory governance rather than a centralist. Values such as integration and transparency come first.”
“In third position we pledge to implement further the sustainability into the corporate world. The main targets are talent development, sustainable work relations with all UGent-collaborators, innovative working methods and efficient use of the infrastructures.
